Description
Watt's Island is a small island in the southeast Chesapeake Bay. It has been eroding for centuries. This lighthouse built on the island in 1867, replacing the original built in 1833. The keeper's quarters was built in 1891. By 1944 erosion had crept up to the steps of the lighthouse and a storm demolished it and the keeper's quarters. Today there is a lighted marker on the spot of the old lighthouse, just south of whats left of the island, about 4 acres of land.
I'm into my local history, and wanted to make this painting as historically acurate as possible. There are only 3 or 4 photos in existence of the lighthouse, and none from this angle. It took me about 40 hours to complete this, using Corel Painter X and a Wacom Intuos 3.
